SECCOS is the abbreviation for Secure Chip Card Operating System and was specified by the German financial industry especially for their requirements. SECCOS is based on the ISO 7816 and offers a comprehensive library of ISO-7816 commandos as well as a application independent security architecture for the card. Applications may easily realised by setting up file structures and using the security architecture.
Application
A smart card based on SECCOS can be used for multifunctional applications and especially for financial transactions. SECCOS was also designed for the implementation of the (qualified) electronic signature. This enables secure and convenient electronic business over open networks. Additional applications like electronic ticketing, TAN Generator or bonus programs can be also integrated and increase the customer retention.
It depends on your specific requirements and needs whether it is reasonable to issue smart cards on basis of SECCOS for your applications and eventually exchange your current smart cards or not.
We would like to arrange a meeting in which we can survey your company-specific questions and needs. Based on these, an activity plan can be established afterwards.
SECCOS and EMV
SECCOS also fulfils the EMV specifications of the credit card organisations Europay, MasterCard and VISA. January 1st, 2005 new liability rules will become effective. For example, the card issuer will be liable for fraudulent payments at an EMV-compliant terminal in case he won't have equipped his cards with the EMV-chip. The EMV-application is supported by SECCOS. Therefore an appropriate platform for multifunctional cards is available for the coming years.
It depends on your specific requirements and needs whether SECCOS can be the operating system for your EMV-projects or not. We would be pleased to arrange a meeting.
